4 Quick Web Graphics Tips Tips for making
Web graphics small, fast, and smooth.
TIP #1 Save images in the right file
format. Images with large areas of solid color (such as
vector graphics or illustrations) should be saved as GIFs.
Images with lots of shading or gradients (such as photos)
should be saved in JPEG format. Very small photos are the
exception, as it's usually better to save them as GIFs.Compression

TIP #2 Resize images in a graphics
program (never resize images with the HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes
of the IMG tag). Save images using a good compression utility.
TIP #3 If you try to code the background
color of a Web page to match the background of an image
placed on the page, the colors may not exactly match in
all browsers. To help avoid color shift problems, create
a small GIF (16x16 pixels or so) of the desired color and
use it as a background tile.
Tip #4 Cropping an Image reduces the
overall physical size of an image and allows you to save
only the part of the image important to the photograph .Cropping
allows you to create a small, fast loading, thumbnail image
for the pilot directory etc.
